Reporting to : Program Manager

Background :

The Local Harvest project is to contribute to economic prosperity and poverty reduction in Indonesia by promoting a switch to sustainable consumption and production of green, healthy, fair and local food by consumers and MSMEs. The outcome is a significant shift in consumption patterns towards sustainable and ethically sourced food products in Indonesia is stimulated by increased knowledge and awareness of consumers about the impacts of their food choices; increased capacities of food MSMEs and producers – including women and indigenous people – to penetrate markets; and a favourable policy environment for uptake of SCP practices in the food sector.

The background to this action is the common vision of Hivos, WWF Indonesia, ASPPUK, NTFP-EP, AMAN and their network partners in PARARA (Panen Raya Nusantara: Harvest of the Archipelago) to promote transformation towards local, sustainable and equitable food systems for producers and consumers in Indonesia. The current food system has tremendous negative impacts on biodiversity, ecosystem resilience and human wellbeing. WWF surveys show that 90% of the Indonesian population is aware that they consume non-environmentally friendly products. The promotion of fair trade of agricultural products presents opportunities to strengthen the position of small producers to enable healthy diets for consumers and to conserve biodiversity. This action will strengthen the position of producers through business linkages food chain stakeholders, and will scale up other already ongoing initiatives to support SCP.

The action will take place in five selected cities (Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Medan and Makassar) and at least 14 districts in eight provinces of Indonesia (West and North Kalimantan, North Sumatra, Riau, West and Central Java, South and Southeast Sulawesi).

In cooperations with MSMEs and producers, NTFP-EP Indonesia is looking for experts.
